An American Year

ENLT 138X: An American Year

This first-year seminar is offered periodically. Readings and assignments may vary by semester.

Note: Students are permitted to purchase/rent used copies or electronic versions where available, as long as they are the same edition as shown in the bookstore. ISBN numbers are helpful here. Contact instructor if you’re unsure about the edition you plan to purchase.

Description

This first-year seminar course explores a selection of literary works (including novels, short stories, poetry, and comics) and other media (film, television, music videos, photographs, etc.) from and related to a single year in American history alongside the historical events that shaped them. We will also be discussing that school year’s Royal Read and engaging in activities that will help first-year students transition into their academic and personal lives at the University of Scranton.
